A. 
The officers of the Township who are elected by the electorate of the Township are:
(1) 
Members of the Board of Commissioners as elected from the various wards.
(2) 
The Township Tax Collector.
B. 
The terms of office, duties and powers of officers elected by the electorate are provided for in the First Class Township Code.[2]

A. 
The Board of Commissioners shall select the following as principal Township officers:
(1) 
President of the Board of Commissioners.
(2) 
Vice President of the Board of Commissioners.
(3) 
Township Manager.
(4) 
Township Secretary.
(5) 
Township Solicitor.
(6) 
Township Engineer.
(7) 
Township Treasurer.

B. 
The terms of office, duties and powers of the various officers referred to in this section are provided for in the First Class Township Code or by the Lower Merion Code.
C. 
The Township Engineer and the Township Solicitor shall be appointed by the Board of Commissioners at its organizational meeting or as soon thereafter as practical. The terms of office of these two officers shall be two years and until their successors qualify.
D. 
All officers referred to in Subsection A of this section shall be independently accountable to the Board of Commissioners for the performance of their respective duties, except that the Board may, in its discretion, direct that the Township Secretary and/or the Township Engineer report to and be accountable to the Township Manager for the performance of their duties, or part thereof.
E. 
Absence of officer. In the event of the temporary absence or disability of any officer and, if one has been so named, his designated assistant, the President shall appoint an acting incumbent, who shall have ad interim power and authority to perform the duties of that office.
F. 
Vacancy. In the event of a vacancy in any such office during the term of any such officer, the Board shall elect and appoint an officer to fill the unexpired term for such office.

The compensation of the officers referred to in §§ 5-5 and 5-6 of this chapter shall be provided for in the annual Township budget as adopted by ordinance, and any amendment to such ordinance, and as otherwise provide for by law. The Township Tax Collector shall, in addition, be entitled to charge those fees set forth in Chapter A167 hereof.

A. 
A person elected or appointed to any of the following Township offices, before entering upon the duties of his office, shall take and subscribe an oath or affirmation to perform the duties of his office with fidelity:
(1) 
Members of the Board of Commissioners.
(2) 
Township Treasurer.

Township Tax Collector.

(3) 
Township Manager.
(4) 
Township Secretary.
(5) 
Township Solicitor.

(7) 
Policemen: every member of the Police Department, including any special police.
(8) 
Any employee assigned the responsibility for the enforcement of laws, statutes or ordinances that affect the rights and privileges of people or property. These employees shall include, but not be limited to, inspectors, the animal warden and meter attendants.
B. 
The form of oath of office may be prescribed by the Township Solicitor, and the oath shall be taken and signed before a Judge, District Justice or Notary Public of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. A copy of such oath shall be filed with the Township Secretary within 10 days thereafter.
A. 
Officers and deputies. The Board may require, by resolution, that any Township officers and deputies give official bonds in such sums as it may deem proper.

B. 
Payment of premiums. The Township shall pay all premiums upon surety bonds when such bonds are given.
A. 
In addition to all other powers and prerogatives conferred on policemen by law, policemen shall be ex officio constables of the Township and may, without warrant and on view, arrest and commit for hearing any and all persons guilty of a breach of the peace, vagrancy, riotous or disorderly conduct or drunkenness, or who may be engaged in the commission of any unlawful act tending to imperil the personal security or endanger the property of the citizens or violating any of the ordinances of the Township for the violation of which a fine or penalty is imposed.
B. 
Policemen shall have the authority to serve and execute all criminal processes for the violation of the Township ordinances, which may be issued by any District Justice of the Township, and shall charge the same fees and costs as pertain by law to constables for similar services, but such fees and costs shall be paid to the Township Treasurer for the use of the Township.
A. 
The Township Manager shall nominate, and the Board shall appoint, the Fire Marshal, the Zoning Officer and the Superintendent of Police. These personnel shall be under the control of and shall be accountable to the Township Manager

B. 
During the temporary absence or disability of any of said officers, the Manager, subject to ratification by the Board, may designate, by letter filed with the Township Secretary, a qualified administrative officer of the Township to perform such officer's duties during his temporary absence or disability.
