The following definitions shall apply in the
interpretation and enforcement of this chapter:
A story, the floor of which is below grade and the ceiling
of which is not less than four feet and six inches above grade.
An enclosed space containing one or more bathtubs or showers,
or both, and which may also include toilets, lavatories or fixtures
serving similar purposes.
A story, the floor of which is below grade and the ceiling
of which is less than four feet six inches above grade.
Any building or structure or part thereof used and occupied
for human habitation or designed to be so used and includes any outhouses
and appurtenances belonging thereto or usually enjoyed therewith.
Any room or group of rooms or part thereof located within
and forming a single habitable unit with facilities which are used
or designated to be used for living, sleeping, cooking and eating.
The open space on the premises and vacant open space on adjacent
premises.
The animal and vegetable waste resulting from the handling,
preparing, cooking or consuming of food.
A room or enclosed floor space used or designed to be used
for living, sleeping, cooking or eating, excluding bathrooms, closet
compartments, laundries, pantries, foyers, basements, cellars, cellar
or basement recreation rooms or communicating corridors, closets and
storage spaces.
A residence building having three or more dwelling units.
The owner, tenant, lessee or other person in actual possession
of and living, sleeping, cooking or eating in a dwelling unit
Either the legal owner or his duly authorized agent or attorney,
executor, trustee, lessee or other person in control of the building.
Includes any and all of the following facilities and equipment:
gas pipes, gas-burning equipment, water pipes, garbage disposal units,
waste pipes, water closets, sinks, installed dishwashers, lavatories,
bathtubs, shower baths, installed clothes-washing or clothes-drying
machines, catch basins, drains, vents and any other similar fixture,
together with all connections to water- , sewer or gas lines.
All combustible and noncombustible waste materials other
than garbage; and the term shall include paper, rags, cartons, boxes,
wood, excelsior, rubber, leather, tree branches, yard trimmings, tin
cans, metals, mineral matter, glass, crockery and the residue from
burning wood, coal, coke or other combustible material.
Paid for, furnished or provided by or under the control of
the owner or operator.
Gas service and equipment therefor; electric service and
equipment therefor; and water supply, including hot water and equipment
therefor.
