This article shall be known and may be cited as "A Local Law Amending Chapter 262, Taxation, of the Town Code of the Town of Clarkstown.
It is the intent of the Town Board of the Town
of Clarkstown to accept the option to provide a veterans' tax exemption
for Cold War Veterans (between the years September 2, 1945 and December
26, 1991) who possess a honorable discharge and Cold War Recognition
Certificate.
As authorized by § 458-b of the Real
Property Tax Law, as added by Chapter 655 of the Laws of 2007, the
Town of Clarkstown does hereby provide the maximum exemption allowable
in Subdivision 2(a) and 2(b), to $12,000 and $40,000, respectively,
to the Cold War Veterans.

In accordance with the provisions of § 458-b of the Real Property Tax Law, as amended by Chapter 209 of the Laws of 2017, the exemption authorized by Chapter 262 of the Clarkstown Town Code shall apply to qualifying owners of qualifying real property for as long as they remain qualifying owners, without regard to the ten-year limitation.
