[Adopted 7-11-1996 by L.L. No. 16-1996]
The elective office of the Town of Colonie Superintendent of Highways is hereby abolished.
This article is subject to a mandatory referendum and shall not take effect unless and until it shall have been submitted to the electors of the Town of Colonie at the general election to be held November 5, 1996 and shall have been approved by a majority of all the votes cast for and against it at such election.[1] Upon approval by the electors, this article shall take effect immediately upon filing the required certified copies thereof in the Office of the Secretary of State and shall apply to the Superintendent of Highways elected November, 1995.

Editor's Note: This article received the affirmative vote of a majority of the qualified electors voting thereon at the general election held on 11-5-1996 in accordance with the applicable provisions of law.
The ballots to be furnished for the use of the voters upon the submission of this article shall be in the form prescribed by the Election Law and the proposition to be submitted shall be printed thereon in substantially the following form, namely, "Should the Town of Colonie abolish the elective office of the Town of Colonie Superintendent of Highways in order to create a streamlined Department of Public Works?"
