Any vehicle parked or abandoned during a snowstorm, flood, fire or other
public emergency, or found unattended and an obstruction to traffic or located
where stopping, standing or parking is prohibited, on any private road, driveway
or parking area listed in Schedules I through X may be removed and impounded
upon the direction of any police officer of the Town of Greenburgh Police
Department under procedures promulgated by the Chief of Police. A vehicle
removed pursuant to this section shall be stored in an area designated by
the Chief of Police and may be disposed of in accordance with applicable law
and Police Department regulations.
After removal of any vehicle pursuant to §
461-15, the Police Department may store such vehicle in a suitable place at the expense of the owner. The owner/operator or person in charge of said vehicle shall pay to the Police Department, before the release of said vehicle, an administrative processing fee of $35. A storage fee of $10 per day for each day, or fraction thereof, shall be charged for each vehicle stored at the Police Impound. The Police Department shall issue a receipt for all payments made under the provisions of this chapter.
All towing by private tow truck operators authorized under this chapter
shall be accomplished at the direction of the Police Department under procedures
promulgated by the Chief of Police. Fees for towing and storage by a private
tow service shall be approved by the Chief of Police. The approved towing
and storage fees for private tow operators removing or storing vehicles under
this section shall be conspicuously posted in the Records/Licensing Section
of the Police Department and at the principal place of business of the private
tow service. When a vehicle is removed pursuant to this chapter, the Police
Department shall notify the last registered owner of said vehicle by certified
mail, return receipt requested, of the removal and impoundment and the procedures
to be followed in order to redeem said vehicle.
