After removal of any vehicle as provided in
this article, the Police Department of the Village of Westhampton
Beach may store or cause such vehicle to be stored in a suitable place
at the expense of the owner. Such owner, or person in charge of the
vehicle, may redeem the same upon payment to the Village Clerk of
the amount of all expenses actually and necessarily incurred in effecting
such removal, such charges not to exceed $75, together with any charges
for storage, such storage charge not to exceed $15 per day where the
vehicle is held 24 hours or longer, and there shall be no storage
charge where the stored vehicle is held less than 24 hours.
A member of the Police Department shall, without
delay, report the removal and the disposition of such vehicle to the
desk officer, and it shall be the duty of such desk officer to ascertain
the owner of much vehicle or person having the same in charge and
to notify him of the removal and disposition of such vehicle and of
the amount which will be required to redeem the same. Such notice
shall be given by registered mail to the address indicated on the
motor vehicle registration.
