[Added 12-15-1993 by Ord. No. 1993-28]
[Amended 10-19-2005 by Ord. No. 2005-14; 6-28-2012 by Ord. No. 2012-07]
The Township is an equal opportunity employer
(EOE). It does not discriminate in matters of hiring, promotion, transfer,
discharge, pay, fringe benefits, or other matters of employment on
the basis of an individual’s race, color, sex, religion, creed,
national origin, ancestry, affectional and sexual orientation, gender
identity or expression, political, domestic partnership, civil union
or marital status, atypical hereditary, cellular or blood trait, genetic
information, citizenship, veteran status, age, physical or mental
disability, liability for service in the United States Armed Forces
or other basis, characteristic or trait prohibited by federal or state
law ("protected class"), except where such considerations are bona
fide occupational qualifications permitted by law. Nor does the Township
discriminate against an individual based upon their association with
a member of a protected class. If any employee or prospective employee
believes he or she has been treated unfairly, please use the Complaint
Policy.[1] The Township’s Employee Handbook contains several
other policies prohibiting, among other things, unlawful harassment
and retaliation. A copy of the Employee Handbook is maintained on
file by the Municipal Clerk.
A.
Federal and state law both make it illegal for an
employer to discriminate because of race, color, creed, national origin,
ancestry, age, marital status, sex, disability of any individual;
or to discriminate against such individual in compensation or in terms,
conditions or privileges of employment.
B.
In order to assure the continuous application of this
policy, there must be a positive program for equal treatment of all
individuals.
C.
The following affirmative action plan will establish
the provisions that will insure the successful maintenance of the
Township's policy of nondiscrimination:
(1)
The appointing authority shall issue a statement of
equal employment policy outlining nondiscrimination in employment
and supporting the spirit and intent of the law, to be conspicuously
posted for the information of current and prospective employees.
(2)
Supervisory personnel shall be trained in the provisions
and objectives of this policy and program and their responsibility
in its implementation.
(3)
All examination and vacancy announcements shall contain
statements of equal employment policy.
(4)
The Complaint Policy and Procedure contained within
the Employee Handbook shall be the means by which all complaints regarding
the provisions of this chapter are addressed, a copy of which can
be obtained from the Township Manager.
[Amended 10-19-2005 by Ord. No. 2005-14]
(5)
The Township Manager shall be the Affirmative Action
Officer for purposes of assuring the proper implementation and maintenance
of this policy and plan.
(6)
Any violation of this policy will result in appropriate disciplinary action up to and including suspension, fines, and termination in accordance with the provisions of this Chapter 32, Personnel.
(7)
The responsibility for enforcement of this policy
shall rest with the supervisors of the department and the Township
Manager as appointing authority.
