A. Pursuant to N.J.S.A. 11A:4-1.3 the West New York Police Department
is authorized to hire qualified entry-level law enforcement officer
candidates who have satisfied all municipal and state requirements
for the position of police officer and have either:
(1) Successfully completed a police training course at a school approved and authorized by the Police Training Commission in the Department of Law and Public Safety of the State of New Jersey pursuant to the provisions of Chapter
56 of the Laws of 1961 (the "Police Training Course"); or
(2) Successfully completed the Police Training Course within nine months
from the date of hire as a temporary entry level officer.
B. Candidates hired pursuant to Subsection
A(2) above shall be exempt from the Civil Service Law Enforcement Examination requirement for entry level officers.
This article shall not prohibit the giving or
accepting of a probationary or temporary appointment as a police officer
for a period not to exceed one year, to enable a person seeking a
permanent appointment to complete a police training course as prescribed
by the Police Training Commission.
No person shall be permitted to take a police
training course unless he holds a probationary or temporary appointment
as a police officer in the Town of West New York, and such appointee
shall be entitled to a leave of absence with pay during the period
of the police training course.
