Township of Falls, PA Chapter 162 Numbering of Buildings

§ 162-1 Identifying numbers for buildings.

All single-family dwelling buildings, commercial and industrial buildings shall be conspicuously marked with the identifying numbers by which the premises have been designated by the original developer, postal authorities or municipal committee.

§ 162-2 Size and luminosity of numbers.

A. Single-family dwelling buildings. The identifying numbers shall be at least four inches high, be luminous at night and be conspicuous at all times.

B. Commercial and industrial buildings. The identifying numbers shall be at least six inches high, be luminous at night and be conspicuous at all times.

§ 162-3 Contrasting background for numbers.

The identifying numbers shall be mounted on a contrasting background.

§ 162-4 Mounting of numbers.

The identifying numbers shall be mounted either on the outer facing boards around the doorway or on the facing board of the carport or garage or on the outside of the screen door or storm door or any other place that can be readily seen from the street. Additional numbers may be placed at any other location that the owner desires.

§ 162-5 Identifying numbers for multifamily dwellings.

All multifamily dwelling buildings shall be uniformly marked with signs identifying them by number or letter. Such signs, outside, shall be twelve by twelve (12 x 12) inches and be of luminous materials. A similar sign, one-half (1/2) the above size, shall be placed on each floor in each stair landing.

§ 162-6 Notice to comply.

Any owners, tenants and occupiers who shall violate and fail to comply with any of the provisions of this chapter shall be notified by the Board of Supervisors or its duly authorized agents to comply with same within 10 days. Notice may be sent by certified mail to the occupants of the premises or be hand delivered and an affidavit of service made by the Township official appointed by the Board of Supervisors to administer this chapter.

§ 162-7 Violations and penalties.

Any person who violates or permits a violation of this chapter shall be guilty of a summary violation and, upon conviction, shall be sentenced to pay a fine of not more than $1,000, plus all court costs, including reasonable attorney's fees, incurred by the Township in the enforcement of this chapter. Each day a violation exists shall constitute a separate offense. In default of the payment of any fine, the defendant shall be sentenced to imprisonment to the extent allowed by law for the punishment of summary offenses. Further, the appropriate officers or agents of the Township are hereby authorized to file a citation for such summary violation and seek any other available relief at law or equity, including injunction, to enforce compliance with this chapter.
