No person shall, on public property owned by the Town of Barrington, possess an open container or consume any intoxicating beverage; provided, however, that nothing herein shall prohibit the lawful transportation of such intoxicating beverages on the streets and highways of the Town of Barrington. For purposes of this section, the term "intoxicating beverage" shall have the same meaning as contained in § 3-1-1 of the Rhode Island General Laws (as amended) as the same now exists or may hereafter be amended.

Pursuant to Rhode Island General Laws, any person who violates the provisions of this article shall be subject to a fine not to exceed the amount of $20.
