As used in this chapter, the following terms shall have the meanings indicated:
KEY MAP AND INDEX
The map and index entitled "Official House Numbering Key Map, Borough of Franklin Lakes, Bergen County, New Jersey, F.E. Harley, Civil Engineer, Borough Engineer, Scale 1" - 800' as revised February, 1958", filed in the Borough Clerk's office as a permanent record.
A. 
All buildings and lots fronting on any street in the Borough shall have assigned street numbers designated on the key map and index.
B. 
The Borough Engineer shall assign a different number to every 50 feet of street frontage of every lot or plot of land in the Borough.
C. 
When any new street is laid out, the Borough Engineer shall designate and plot the new street on the key map and shall provide street numbers on the key map in accordance with the provisions of this section.
D. 
A building on a lot which does not front on any street in the Borough shall, for postal delivery purposes, have a temporary number assigned to it by the Borough Engineer. Said number shall be followed by the letter "T" to indicate its temporary nature and shall be associated with the street to which the building has access and on which postal delivery is to be made.
In all cases where numbers are or shall hereafter be placed on the key map by the Borough Engineer, it shall be the duty of the owner to apply to the Borough Tax Assessor for the correct number of the building as the same is designated on the key map. Upon receipt of the application, the Borough Tax Assessor shall furnish to the applicant the correct number of the applicant's property.
It shall be the duty of every property owner to place the assigned street number upon each lot where a building is located. The placement of the assigned street number shall conform to the requirements of this chapter.
A. 
Every building shall be identified by Arabic numerals, e.g., 1, 2, 3, etc., which shall be visible from the abutting street. As used in this subsection, "abutting street" shall mean the street for which the building's legal address has been designated.
B. 
The size of such identification numerals shall range from a minimum of three inches to a maximum of eight inches for residences and a minimum of three inches to a maximum of 18 inches for commercial or industrial buildings. All numerals shall have a contrasting background. Where numerals are located more than 50 feet from the roadway, their height shall be three inches plus one inch for every 10 feet beyond 50 feet.
C. 
Identification numerals shall be affixed either to the exterior doorway of the building facing the abutting street or on the building at a location immediately adjacent to the exterior doorway. If such location of identification numerals is not visible from the abutting street, as required by Subsection A of this section, identification numerals shall be immediately adjacent to the driveway at a point not more than 25 feet from the curb of the abutting street so as to be visible from the abutting street, provided that, if the driveway does not intersect the abutting street, identification numerals shall be located at a point not more than 25 feet from the curb of the abutting street and at a location which shall make them visible from the abutting street.
The numbers shall proceed in the following manner:
A. 
Franklin Avenue, south side, starts with No. 502 at the Wyckoff boundary and increases westward.
B. 
Franklin Avenue, north side, starts with No. 497 at the Wyckoff boundary and increases westward.
C. 
East and north sides of streets shall have odd numbers.
D. 
West and south sides of streets shall have even numbers.
