A.
No person shall be appointed a probationary or regular member of
the Department unless he or she has first made proper application
and has been examined as prescribed in the Selection Policy of the
Department relating to qualifications for appointment.

B.
No person shall hereafter be given or accept a permanent
appointment as a regular member of the Department unless he or she
first has successfully completed a police training course at a school
approved and authorized by the Police Training Commission in the Department
of Law and Public Safety of the State of New Jersey, pursuant to the
provisions of Chapter 56 of the Laws of New Jersey of 1961, as supplemented
and amended (N.J.S.A. 52:17B-66 et seq.).

No person shall be appointed to the Department unless he or
she possesses the qualifications for appointment provided by law and
complies with the requirements of this article.

Any person appointed to the Department shall be first appointed
as a probationary patrolman to serve for a probationary period of
one year. During such year probationary patrol officers shall obey
all the provisions of this chapter and of the Selection Policy of
the Department. Probationary patrol officers shall not be entitled
to enjoy the benefits of tenure of office as provided in N.J.S.A.
40A:14-128 and 40A:14-147, as amended. If at any time during the probationary
year the Manager shall determine that a probationary patrol officer's
performance does not meet the standards for regular membership in
the Department, he or she shall dismiss such probationary patrol officer.
Such dismissal shall terminate the services of the probationary patrol
officer in the Department.

At the completion of the probationary period, the Chief shall
submit a written report to the Manager, stating in detail the qualifications
of the probationary patrol officer for appointment as a regular member
of the Department and his or her recommendations as to whether such
appointment should be made.
Any deception or attempt at deception by an
applicant in his or her application or in any phase of his or her
candidacy shall be cause for rejection or for dismissal if discovered
after appointment.
Upon appointment as a probationary patrolman
or as a regular member of the Department, every appointee shall subscribe
to and take the oath of office prescribed by law.
