As used in this article, the following terms
shall have the meanings indicated:
BOARDING HOMES FOR SHELTERED CARE
Any private establishment which provides food and shelter
to four or more adult persons unrelated to the proprietor and which
also provides some personal care or service beyond food, shelter and
laundry, but not including nursing care, to any one or more persons.
CONVALESCENT HOME
Any privately operated establishment, whether operated for
profit or not, devoted to the care, treatment or nursing of two or
more nonrelated individuals during the recuperation stage of an illness
or injury. This definition shall not be construed to imply or permit
the practice of general hospital functions, such as major surgical
operations, or the rendering of service beyond nursing care.
FAMILY DAY-CARE HOME
A day-care home for children which has been registered with
the State of New Jersey pursuant to the Family Day Care Provider Registration
Act of 1987.

NURSERY
An establishment which is not operated, maintained, licensed
or regulated by the State Division of Youth and Family Services, where
children under six years of age are kept during the daytime while
parent or parents are at work or otherwise engaged, or where four
or more children under six years of age are lodged at a stipulated
rate of pay. Such an establishment may be privately operated and supported
by fees charged for the service, or it may be an establishment owned
and operated by the municipality.

NURSING HOME
A privately operated establishment, whether operated for
profit or not, which maintains and operates facilities for the treatment,
care or nursing of two or more nonrelated individuals suffering from
illness, injury, infirmity or deformity, or which provides convalescent
or other medical or nursing care. Nothing contained herein shall be
construed to imply or permit the practice of general hospital functions,
such as surgical operations; the establishment of a home or hospital
for persons suffering from mental illness, mental retardation or mental
deficiency; or the rendering of services beyond nursing care.

Family day-care homes shall comply with all
provisions of the National Fire Prevention Association's Life Safety
Code, Section 10-9, Family Day Care Homes.
All employees shall be instructed periodically
in the fire protection facilities of the institution, in the use of
the fire-fighting apparatus and in the methods of removing patients
and inmates from the building.
Any building in the Township conducted or operated as a nursery, nursing home, boarding home for sheltered care or convalescent home may be inspected from time to time by any officer of the Fire Department. If said inspections disclose conditions existing in the building which tend to create fire hazards or conditions contrary to the provisions and requirements of this article, such condition or conditions shall be corrected within 30 days after notice and order in writing to the owner or operator of the establishment or within such other time as may be required by the Fire Chief or his or her duly authorized agent. Such notice and order shall be served in the manner provided in §
153-10.
