The Uniform Fire Safety Act[1] shall be locally enforced in Waterford Township.

All geographical areas as defined by the boundaries of the Township of Waterford shall be under the jurisdiction of the Waterford Township Fire Department.
The local enforcement agency shall enforce the Uniform Fire Safety Act and the codes and regulations adopted under it in all buildings, structures and premises within the established boundaries of the Township of Waterford, other than owner-occupied one- and two-family dwellings, and shall faithfully comply with the requirements of the Uniform Fire Safety Act and the Uniform Fire Code.
The local enforcing agency established by § 137-2 of this article shall carry out the periodic inspections of life-hazard uses required by the Uniform Fire Code on behalf of the Commissioner of the Department of Community Affairs.
The local enforcing agency established by § 137-2 of this article shall be a part of the Department of Public Safety and shall be under the direct supervision and control of the elected official appointed by the Mayor of Waterford Township to supervise the activities of the Department of Public Safety.
The local enforcing agency established pursuant to § 137-2 of this article shall be under the supervision of a Fire Official,[1] who shall be appointed by the governing body of Waterford Township. In making this appointment, the governing body shall make the appointment from among a list of three recommendations provided by the Fire Chief of the enforcing agency.

The Fire Official shall serve for a term of one year. Any vacancy shall be filled for the unexpired term. The Fire Official shall be removed from office during the term of appointment only for good cause shown and only after having been offered a hearing upon any charges before the governing body.
Such inspectors and other employees as may be necessary in the local enforcing agency shall be appointed by the governing body upon the recommendation of the Fire Official.
Inspectors and other employees of the enforcing agency shall be subject to removal by the Fire Official for inefficiency or misconduct. Each inspector or employee to be so removed shall be afforded an opportunity to be heard by the governing body or a designated hearing officer. The governing body or designated hearing officer shall have the authority to modify, in whole or in part, the decision of the Fire Official.
Pursuant to N.J.S.A. 52:27D-206 and 52:27D-208 of the Uniform Fire Safety Act, any person aggrieved by any order of the local enforcement agency shall have the right to appeal to the Construction Board of Appeals of Camden County.

In addition to the inspection and fees required pursuant to the Act and regulations of the Department of Community Affairs, fees as set forth in the Township Fee Schedule Ordinance[1] shall be required.
