GENERAL REFERENCES

There is hereby established, in the Town of Cortlandt, a Traffic Safety Board.
The Traffic Safety Board established herein shall consist of 10 membersm to be appointed by the Town Board, whose terms of office shall be for a period of three years.
The Town Board shall designate one of the members of the Traffic Safety Board to be the Chairperson thereof, and said Chairperson's designation shall be on a calendar-year basis.
The Chairperson of this Board or any three members, in writing, may call a meeting of the Traffic Safety Board at such time and place as is appropriate under the normal regulations of the Town of Cortlandt for meeting of advisory boards. At said meeting the Chairperson shall preside, and in the absence of the Chairperson, the members thereof shall select a person to preside at that meeting. All meetings of the Traffic Safety Board shall be open to the public, except executive sessions as allowed by the Public Officers Law of the State of New York.
The Traffic Safety Board shall:
A. 
Formulate highway safety programs, conduct traffic studies and analyze the reports and causes of accidents.
B. 
Receive, upon referral by the Town Board, any requests of citizens of the town for a modification of traffic regulations or ordinances within the community of the town and, upon said receipt of said referral to study said proposals, analyze them, do site visitations and make such recommendations to the Town Board as a majority of said Board sees fit, and recommend to the Town Board changes in the local traffic regulations and promote safety education for drivers and pedestrians within the town.
The Town Board shall designate an employee of the town who shall serve as the liaison to the Traffic Safety Board and all of the agencies and the departments of the town. The employee so designated shall also perform the function of Clerk for said Board and shall keep all of the records and minutes thereof.
This chapter shall take effect on September 1, 1997, and all terms of office shall be deemed to commence as of September 1, 1997.
