The plan and system for the numbering of houses
and buildings prepared by the Borough Council, including a copy of
the rural numbering system, which is attached hereto and made a part
hereof, is hereby approved and adopted.[1]

On and after the passage and approval of this
chapter, it shall be the duty of each and every owner, trustee, lessee,
agent and occupant of each and every house, building, or other structure
in the Borough to cause the same to be numbered in accordance with
this chapter, and the system and plan hereby adopted and approved.
A.
Each building to which a street number has been assigned
shall have such number displayed in a position easily observed and
readable from the public right-of-way, all numbers shall be Arabic
numerals at least three inches (76 mm) high and 3/8 inch stroke.
B.
It shall be unlawful to cover any house number with
any sign, drapery, or other obstruction tending to conceal such number
and all old numbers should be removed from any house, building or
other structure when a new number has been assigned, and when so directed
by the Borough Council.
C.
The Borough Council of Jim Thorpe is hereby authorized
to require the numbering and renumbering of any house, building or
other structure in accordance with this chapter.
The numbering system shall be based on increments
of 1/1,000 of a mile. Numbers are then determined and assigned by
dividing the footage from the beginning of the street to the building
by 5.28 and rounding the quotient to the nearest whole number. If
the result is an even number and the property to be addressed is located
on the odd side of the street, its number shall be the even number
minus one; if the result is an odd number and the property to be addressed
is located on the even-side of the street, its number shall be the
odd number plus one. For example, if the place to be addressed is
3,263 feet from the second mile from the beginning of the street,
the total footage of 13,823 (i.e., 3,263 + 10,560) is divided by 5.28
and rounded to the nearest whole number, which equals 2,618 The number
of the address will be 2,618 if located on the even side of the street
and 2,617 if located on the odd side of the street. All even numbers
shall be on the south and west side of the streets, and all odd numbers
shall be on the north and east side of the streets.
A.
The developer of any new subdivision in the Borough
of Jim Thorpe must submit a plan of same to the Borough determining
numbering of lots located within the subdivision by the proper authority.
B.
For simplicity, all existing subdivisions shall use
their existing lot number and frontal street name as their location
address. Letters, dashes, etc., shall not be used in the number portion
of the address. Street names and house numbers should be assigned
in a manner which precludes duplicate location addresses.
Any person, firm or corporation who shall violate
any provision of this ordinance shall, upon conviction thereof, be
sentenced to pay a fine of not more than $1,000 plus costs and, in
default of payment of said fine and costs, to a term of imprisonment
not to exceed 30 days.
