[Adopted as Article 125 of the Codified Ordinances]
A City Solicitor shall be appointed by the Mayor, by and with the advice and consent of the Council, who shall serve for a term of four years, concurrent with that of the Mayor. He shall be removable from office at the discretion of the Mayor upon written notice of intention to the Council, as provided for heads of departments.
A. 
The City Solicitor shall perform such legal services for the City as are provided in the Third Class City Code[1] and such other duties as may be required by the Mayor or the Council.

B. 
The City Solicitor's staff shall consist of such Assistant Solicitors and secretarial and clerical assistants as provided in the annual appropriation ordinance.
Before entering into office, the City Solicitor shall give bond to the City, as required by law, in the sum of $5,000.
The City Solicitor shall deposit with the City Controller for safekeeping all assurances of title, contracts, bonds, deeds, leases, mortgages and other evidences of debt belonging to the City, which are not immediately necessary for the City Solicitor's use.
One or more Assistant City Solicitors, having the same qualifications as those required by law for the City Solicitor, may be elected by the Council for a term of four years; provided, nevertheless, that upon the occurrence of any vacancy in the office of City Solicitor prior to the expiration of the City Solicitor's term, the term of the Assistant City Solicitors shall end immediately upon the qualification to office of the City Solicitor elected to fill such vacancy. Before entering into office, each Assistant City Solicitor shall give bond to the City in the sum of $1,000 to secure the faithful performance of his duties.
The City Solicitor is hereby authorized to appoint a Clerk to the City Solicitor, whose compensation shall be fixed by the Council. Before entering into office, the Clerk to the City Solicitor shall give bond in the sum of $1,000 to secure the faithful performance of her duties.
