The Director of Public Works may extend the
mains and otherwise increase the efficiency and advantage of the waterworks
as appropriations shall be made for these purposes, and generally
may do any other act or thing which he or she may deem necessary for
the proper management of the waterworks; provided that he or she shall
not at any time incur any debt on account of the waterworks in excess
of the appropriations which shall be from time to time made therefor.
The Director of Public Works shall have the
supervision, control and general charge of the management and operation
of the municipal garage. He or she may make rules and regulations
regarding its use and for the control of chauffeurs operating motor
vehicles therein and may employ such assistance as may be required
for its care, maintenance and operation.
A.
The Director of Public Works shall keep all motor
vehicles stored or kept in the municipal garage in as good condition
and repair as possible and shall provide for such vehicles everything
necessary to do so, including parts and tires, and shall also furnish
all gasoline, oil, grease or other substances necessary for operation
of all motor vehicles used by the various departments of the City,
except those used by the park, fire and police departments.
B.
The Director of Public Works shall install and keep
a proper system of accounting, to the end that each department shall
be charged with its proportionate share for storage in such garage
and for repairs, parts and supplies used for motor vehicles assigned
to it, and all such charges and receipts from such other departments
shall be credited to the appropriation for the municipal garage.
