There shall be an Animal Control Officer and Assistant Animal Control Officer who shall have all the powers given and perform all the duties required by the ordinances of the City of Pawtucket, statutes of the State of Rhode Island and rules and regulations promulgated or which may be promulgated by the City Council, except that the Assistant Animal Control Officer shall not carry firearms.

Editor's Note: Original Sections 1 and 2 which immediately preceded this section and dealt with the repeal of certain ordinances and election of the Animal Control Officer and Assistant in February by Council after its organization, were deleted 7-25-1996 by Ch. No. 2420.
The Animal Control Officer shall be required to be on duty at the Dog Pound five days a week, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. On Saturday, the Animal Control Officer shall be at the Dog Pound from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and shall answer all emergency calls. The Animal Control Officer shall answer all emergency calls on Sunday, but need not be present at the Dog Pound.
The Animal Control Officer shall have 11 paid holidays. Said holidays are enumerated in the Personnel Rules and Regulations of the City of Pawtucket.[1] The Animal Control Officer shall answer all emergency calls on said holidays. The Animal Control Officer shall have two weeks vacation with pay.

A. 
The Assistant Animal Control Officer shall be required to be on duty 40 hours a week. This duty shall include both patrolling the streets of the City of Pawtucket so as to provide coverage when the Animal Control Officer is not on duty and a general cleanup operation at the City Dog Pound.
B. 
The Assistant Animal Control Officer shall have all holidays as enumerated in the Personnel Rules and Regulations of the City of Pawtucket. The Assistant Animal Control Officer shall answer all emergency calls on such holidays. The Assistant Animal Control Officer shall have two weeks vacation with pay.
