[Adopted 4-26-1988 as §§ 2-76 to 2-78 of the 1988 Code]
A Council for the Aging is hereby established pursuant to MGL c. 40, § 8B, for the purpose of coordinating or carrying out programs designed to meet the problems of the aging. The Council shall consist of nine members to be appointed by the chief executive officer of the City, subject to confirmation by the City Council. Three members shall be appointed to serve for one year, three for two years and three for three years, and annually thereafter there shall be appointed three members to serve for three years. The chief executive officer of the City shall designate the Chairman. The Council for the Aging may appoint such clerks and other employees as it may require. The appointees to the Council for the Aging shall hold office until their successors are designated and appointed by the chief executive officer of the City with the consent of the City Council.
The Council for the Aging shall be under the administrative supervision of the chief executive officer of the City, and the members thereof shall serve without compensation.

It shall be the duty of the Council for the Aging to coordinate or carry out programs designed to meet problems of the aging in coordination with programs of the State Department of Elder Affairs established under MGL c. 19A, § 1.
