[HISTORY: Adopted by the Mayor and Council of the Borough of Spring Lake by Ord. No. 39-2000 (§ 9-13 of the Revised General Ordinances). Amendments noted where applicable.]
The purpose of this chapter shall be to provide a waiting period prior to the issuance of a demolition permit in order to permit time to consider and reflect upon the importance of the Borough's heritage to future generations, the uniqueness of the landmarks as they relate to the Borough's image and character, their importance to the economy of the Borough in terms of attracting tourists or attracting a high caliber of residential and commercial development, as well as to try to maintain the historic beauty and appeal of the Borough.
If the house has received a historical plaque by the Spring Lake Historical Society there will be a waiting period of 45 business days prior to the issuance of any demolition permit by the Construction Official. The waiting period shall commence from the receipt of the written application by the Construction Official.

There will be a waiting period of 20 business days, prior to the issuance of any demolition permit by the Construction Official, for all other houses or commercial structures. The waiting period shall commence from the receipt of the written application by the Construction Official.

The application for a demolition permit, submitted to the Construction Official, shall be signed by the owner of the property and accompanied by evidence of the applicant's current ownership of the property. A copy of the deed of conveyance or a current tax bill shall be considered sufficient evidence of ownership.
Every person, firm, association, organization or corporation violating any provisions of this chapter shall, upon conviction, be liable to the penalty stated in Chapter 1, Article II, General Penalty.
