[Adopted 10-2-2001 (Ch. 20, Art. I, of the 1985 Code of Ordinances)]
The purpose of this article is to have in place a logical process of assigning building street address numbers and preventing duplicate and close sounding names, in the interest of public safety.
A. 
The Town Manager or designee shall assign/approve street names for new public streets.
B. 
The Town Manager or designee shall approve names for new private streets.
C. 
Any requests to change the name of an existing public or private street shall be referred to the Town Manager or his designee for review. Upon completion of the review, the request shall be forwarded to the Town Council with a recommendation either in favor of the request or providing reasons to not grant the request for Town Council action.
The Town Manager or designee shall assign address numbers in accordance with procedures established by the Town Manager or his designee to allow timely identification of structures and buildings during emergency and nonemergency situations.
This article shall not be retroactive except that any building or structure that is sold or otherwise has any change in the deedholder(s) or is modified or renovated so that it must be brought into conformance with the existing applicable firesafety or building safety code shall also bring the building or structure into compliance with this article.
No certificate of occupancy shall be issued for any building or structure that does not meet [the requirements of] this article when it is applicable as determined by the Town Manager or his designee, who will notify the Building Official whether or not the building/structure is in compliance with this article.
