[HISTORY: Adopted by the City Council of the City of Ithaca as Art. III of Ch. 65 of the 1974 Municipal Code. Amendments noted where applicable.]
A. 
No person shall discharge any firearm, air gun, spring gun, slingshot or other instrument or weapon within the city except in self-defense or in the discharge of official duty or during a memorial service or veteran's funeral or at an indoor rifle range operated under the supervision, guidance and instruction of a duly commissioned officer of one of the Armed Forces, including the National Guard and reserve forces, or a duly qualified adult citizen of the United States who has been granted a certificate as an instructor of small arms practice issued by one of the Armed Forces of the United States, by the Adjutant General of the state or by the National Rifle Association of America, except as hereinafter provided in § 219-2.
B. 
Except pursuant to the provisions of § 336-22 of Chapter 336, Parks and Recreation, no person shall discharge, fire or use archery equipment of any kind or nature whatsoever upon any public property of the City of Ithaca.

A. 
Prohibited.
(1) 
No person shall hunt, pursue or kill with a gun or firearm any wild animals, fowl or birds or engage in hunting within the city.
(2) 
No person shall set, take or attempt to take any animal by means of a trap of the steel-jaw leg-hold type at any place in the city.
(3) 
No person shall set, take or attempt to take any animal by means of a trap of a quick-kill or killer type at any place in the city except within any of the waterways wherein such traps shall be lawful, provided that in no event shall such traps be permitted in the following waterways:
(a) 
In Fall Creek between the falls on the east and New York State Route 13 on the northwest.
(b) 
In Cascadilla Creek between the falls on the east and New York State Route 13 on the northwest.
(c) 
In Six Mile Creek between the city's southern boundary on the southeast and Meadow Street on the west.

Editor's Note: Former § 219-2B(1), which pertained to persons hunting waterfowl over Cayuga Lake, was repealed 11-2-1994 by Ord. No. 94-9.
(2) 
Nothing in this chapter shall prohibit the setting or use of traps in or under buildings or city households for the purpose of controlling mice and rats, nor shall this chapter apply to the use of any traps for display, offer for sale or for use in trapping outside the City of Ithaca.
Any person who shall violate any provision of this chapter shall be punished as provided in Chapter 1, General Provisions, Article I, Penalties.
