GENERAL REFERENCES
Parks and recreation areas — See Ch. 117.
The Department of Parks is hereby created as a department of the Incorporated
Village of Lake Grove, County of Suffolk, State of New York.
A.
The head of such Department shall be designated as the
Commissioner of Parks.
B.
The Mayor of the village shall designate, nominate and
appoint one of the duly elected Village Trustees as the Commissioner of Parks,
who shall be appointed for a term not to exceed his term of office as such
elected Village Trustee and shall serve without compensation for the performance
of his duties as such Commissioner of Parks.
A.
It shall be the duty and responsibility of the Commissioner
of Parks:

To develop and recommend landscape architecture, coordinate
building construction on village park areas, provide and plan for facilities
planning in all recreation and park areas.
(3)
To coordinate with the Village Planning Board and housing
developers on the location and size of new park sites.
(4)
To manage the operation of the employees performing services
in connection with the above.
(5)
To coordinate with the Director of Purchase of the Village
of Lake Grove on specifications for playground equipment, miscellaneous machinery
and tools necessary for maintaining the above-listed operations.

To supervise personnel and equipment operators which
may be required from time to time.
(7)
To supervise the Department of Parks in its entirety
and all personnel required as may be assigned to the Parks Department from
time to time.
B.
The hiring or firing of personnel, fixing of salaries
and prescribing their duties, the purchase of equipment, the acceptance of
park sites or land from housing developers or as may be given, devised and
bequeathed to the village for such park or recreational purposes shall all
be subject to the approval of the Village Board.
C.
The Park Commissioner shall prescribe and promulgate
such rules and regulations for the operation, maintenance and use of the parks
and recreation areas as he may deem necessary from time to time, subject to
the approval of the Village Board.
D.
The Department of Parks shall have jurisdiction of and
maintain old historical landmarks, cemeteries (old, abandoned, new and still
being used as burial grounds) and any other real property acquired by, granted,
conveyed or devised as a gift to the Village of Lake Grove for park, recreational
purposes or a historical landmark.
The Highway Department of the Village of Lake Grove shall maintain and
repair all parks and recreational areas as part of the functions of said Highway
Department and shall assign such employees and equipment as may be requested
by the Park Commissioner on a regular, scheduled and agreed terms and basis
between the Superintendent of Highways and the Commissioner of Parks and/or
the Village Board.
