[HISTORY: Adopted by the Board of Supervisors

The Constitution of Virginia and Title 15.2
and Title 24.2 of the Code of Virginia, 1950, as amended, require
that the Board of Supervisors of Mathews County, Virginia, reapportion
the representation of the governing body in said county to provide
equal representation based on population according to the 1980 United
States Decennial Census and to establish election districts, precincts,
and polling places for each district or precinct so that they shall
be composed, as nearly as practicable, of contiguous and compact areas
with clearly defined and clearly observable boundaries.
The establishment of an election district and
precincts and polling places within the County of Mathews, Virginia,
is made pursuant to the Constitution of Virginia and Title 15.2 and
Title 24.2 of the Code of Virginia, 1950, as amended.
A.
There shall be one election district within the County
of Mathews which shall correspond to and be identical with the boundaries
of the County of Mathews, Virginia.
B.
The aforesaid election district and the boundaries
thereof were duly established by the Board of Supervisors of Mathews
County, Virginia, by resolution adopted June 9, 1981.

The boundaries of the precincts shall be as
set forth in Section 3 of an ordinance titled "An Ordinance To Provide
for Precincts, To Establish Boundary Lines of Precincts, To Name Each
Precinct, and To Establish a Polling Place for Each Precinct in Mathews
County, Virginia," adopted by the Mathews County Board of Supervisors
on May 25, 1971, effective June 1, 1971, and are as follows:

Chesapeake Precinct: Beginning at a point in
the center of Put-In Creek, thence in a straight line in an easterly
direction, same being an extension of the boundary and the boundary
line between the land of John Warren Cooke and Anne R. Cooke on the
north and the land of Ethel Minter Parr on the south, to the center
of State Highway Route No. 14; thence in a northerly direction along
the center of State Highway No. 14 to its intersection with State
Highway Route No. 611; thence in an easterly direction along the center
of State Highway Route No. 611 and also in a southerly direction with
said State Highway to its intersection with Garden Creek; thence in
an easterly direction down the center of Garden Creek and through
the center of the newly constructed Garden Creek canal to Chesapeake
Bay; thence in a southerly direction with Chesapeake Bay to New Point
Comfort; thence in a northwesterly direction up Mobjack Bay to the
mouth of East River; thence in a northerly direction up the center
of East River to the mouth of Put-In Creek; thence in a northerly
direction along the center of Put-In Creek to the point of beginning.

Westville Precinct: Beginning in the center
of State Highway Route No. 14 at the Gloucester County line; thence
in an easterly direction along the center of State Highway Route No.
14 to its intersection with State Highway Route No. 198; thence in
a southerly direction along the center of State Highway Route No.
198 and 14 to its intersection with State Highway Route No. 713; thence
in a southeasterly direction along the center of State Highway Route
No. 713 to State Highway Route No. 641; thence in a northerly direction
along the northern right-of-way line of State Route No. 641 (Pine
Hall Road); thence along the eastern boundary line of the land of
Robert Stanley Ward to the center of a branch of Stutts Creek (see
Plat Book No. 1, Page 55 for this particular line); thence along the
center of said branch to Stutts Creek; thence in an easterly direction
along the center of Stutts Creek to Milford Haven and through the
Hole-in-the-Wall to Chesapeake Bay; east by Chesapeake Bay and the
boundary line of the Chesapeake Magisterial District; southwesterly
by Mobjack Bay; and west by North River and the boundary line between
Mathews County and Gloucester County.

Piankatank Precinct: North by Piankatank River;
east by Chesapeake Bay; south by the boundary line of the Westville
Magisterial District; and west by the boundary line between Mathews
County and Gloucester County.

A map of the County of Mathews, prepared by
the Virginia Department of Highways and Transportation, Richmond,
Virginia, and titled "General Highway Map," identifying the boundaries
of Mathews County, is attached hereto and made a part of this chapter.[1]

A.
The Board
of Supervisors of Mathews County hereby establishes a Central Absentee
Voter Precinct that shall receive, count, and record such absentee
ballots as are properly cast in each election held within Mathews
County. The Central Absentee Voter Precinct shall receive, count,
and record all such ballots in accordance with Virginia law.
B.
The Central
Absentee Voter Precinct shall be located at the Mathews Courthouse/Liberty
Square at 10604 Buckley Hall Road, Mathews, Virginia.
C.
The security
of the unvoted and voted ballots shall be the responsibility of the
Voter Registrar. The Voter Registrar shall account for all unvoted
and voted ballots.
