A. 
The Code Enforcement Officer of the Township of Galloway is hereby designated as the municipal officer charged with the responsibility, where it shall be necessary and expedient for the preservation of the public health, safety and general welfare, or to eliminate a fire hazard, to remove from such lands or destroy brush, weeds, including ragweed, dead and dying trees, stumps, roots, obnoxious growth, filth, garbage, trash and debris, within 10 days after notice to remove or destroy the same, and to provide for the removal or destruction of the same in those cases where the owner or tenant shall have refused or neglected to remove or destroy same in the manner and within the time hereinabove set forth.
B. 
To the extent that it shall become necessary to utilize municipal funds to comply with the provisions of Subsection A hereof, the Code Enforcement Officer shall certify the cost thereof to the governing body, which governing body shall examine the certificate and if found correct shall cause the cost as shown thereon to be charged against said lands by resolution.
C. 
The amount of the cost thereof shall forthwith become a lien upon such lands and shall be added to and become and form a part of the taxes next to be assessed and levied upon such lands, the same to bear interest at the same rate as taxes and shall be collected and enforced by the same officer and in the same manner as taxes.

Upon the effective date of this section, and thereafter, the municipality, by resolution of its governing body, may abate a nuisance, correct a defect, or put any private premises in proper condition so as to comply with the requirements of any municipal ordinance or state law applicable thereto, at the cost of the owner or lessor, and to expend municipal funds for such purpose and to charge the same against the premises, and the amount thereof as determined by the governing body of the municipality shall be a lien against the premises and collectible as provided by the statutes of the State of New Jersey.
