By the adoption of this chapter, the Town Board of the Town of Brookhaven declares its intent to be to regulate in a manner consistent with the interest of the citizens of the Town of Brookhaven the maintaining and operating of washing machines, drying machines and dry-cleaning machines. Unattended, such machines constitute a threat to the safety and welfare of the community. Therefore, recognizing the need for regulation, the Town Board of the Town of Brookhaven does enact this chapter.
Each person who is the owner, operator or manager of a business of maintaining and operating for hire separate washing machines, drying machines and/or dry-cleaning machines for personal and individual use, where made available to the public, shall provide an attendant who is familiar with the operation of such machines and any other machines installed on the premises used therein and who shall be in attendance at all times when such machines are made available to hire.
As used in this chapter, the following terms shall have the meanings indicated:
PERSON
Includes an individual, any combination of individuals or a corporation.
A. 
Any person who violates the provisions of this chapter or permits any acts in violation thereof shall be guilty of a violation and, upon conviction, shall be subject to a fine of not more than $500 or imprisonment not exceeding 15 days, or to both such fine and imprisonment.
B. 
In addition to the above-provided penalties and punishment, the Town Board may also maintain an action or proceeding in the name of the Town in a court of competent jurisdiction to compel compliance with or to restrain by injunction the violation of this chapter.
