This chapter shall be known and cited as the "Town of Southampton Park
Preserve."

The purpose of this chapter is to establish a Town Park
Preserve so that certain Town-owned properties can be protected.

Section 330-27 of the Town Code currently provides for inclusion of land in public and private ownership used for golf courses, tennis courts, nature preserves, hunting preserves, parks, recreational areas and beach areas. However, additional clarification is required for designation of public lands and for protection of those lands from future divestiture or change of use.

This chapter establishes the regulatory framework, whereby
public lands can be recommended, reviewed and designated as Park Preserve
for a variety of active and passive recreational uses. In addition, the chapter
places restrictions on the use and transfer of such lands so that the public
interest in recreational lands may be preserved.
The following words and expressions, where used in this chapter, shall
have the meanings ascribed to them by this section:
The Town of Southampton Environmental Advisory Committee.
The process by which any Town-owned property shall be included within the Town of Southampton Park Preserve in accordance with the procedures set forth in § 232-5.
The Town of Southampton Department of Land Management.
The Town of Southampton Department of Parks, Recreation and Human
Services.
Any portion of land or water owned by the Town which is formally
dedicated for active and passive recreational uses, including but not limited
to golf, tennis, swimming, hiking, baseball, basketball, soccer, rollerblading,
running, skateboarding and other recreational activities.
The official list of Town-owned properties that have been dedicated
to the Park Preserve.
The Town of Southampton located within Suffolk County, New York.
The duly elected and constituted legislative body of the Town of
Southampton.
