A. 
The words and phrases used in this chapter shall, for the purpose of this chapter, have the meanings respectively ascribed to them by Article I of the Vehicle and Traffic Law of the State of New York.
B. 
The following words and phrases, which are not defined by Article I of the Vehicle and Traffic Law of the State of New York, shall have the meanings respectively ascribed to them in this section for purposes of the traffic ordinances of this Town.
CURBLINE
The prolongation of the lateral line of a curb or, in the absence of a curb, the lateral boundary line of the roadway.
HOLIDAYS
New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
OFFICIAL TIME STANDARD
Whenever certain hours are named herein or on traffic control devices, they shall mean the time standard which is in the current use in this state.
The Superintendent of Highways shall install and maintain traffic control devices when and as required under the provisions of this chapter to make effective the provisions of said chapter and may install and maintain such additional traffic control devices as he may deem necessary to regulate, warn or guide traffic under the Vehicle and Traffic Law of the State of New York, subject to the provisions of §§ 1682 and 1684 of that law.
The provisions of Articles V through IX shall apply except when it is necessary to stop a vehicle to avoid conflict with other traffic or in compliance with the directions of a police officer or official traffic control device.
The system of pavement markings upon state highways in this State of New York is hereby made applicable to the Town roads in this Town of Southampton. Said markings, when placed upon Town roads, shall have the same meaning and effect as similar markings upon state roads in this Town, and violations of such markings upon said Town roads shall be subject to the same penalties as violations of such markings on state roads.
It shall be unlawful on any highway constructed under § 117-b of the Highway Law to operate or use the same in the following manner:
A. 
Parking, standing, stopping or backing of vehicles.
B. 
Use by pedestrians, equestrians or any vehicle or device moved by human or animal power.
C. 
Any limited-use vehicle incapable of maintaining a speed greater than 40 miles per hour.
