It is the opinion of the Supervisors that it
will promote the general welfare of Girard Township to have a complete
and systematic house-numbering system in Girard Township.
Prior to any person or persons occupying a building
or structure or any part thereof, an application shall be made to
the Board of Supervisors of Girard Township or to a person designated
by said Supervisors for this purpose of assigning an appropriate number(s)
to building(s) or structure(s) in accordance with the Girard Township
house-numbering system, three copies of which will be kept on file
with the Girard Township Secretary/Treasurer.
Existing buildings or structures are henceforth,
and when this chapter becomes effective, assigned new numbers in accordance
with the Girard Township house-numbering system, except that, where
possible, existing numbering will be retained when not in conflict
with the new house-numbering system. The occupants of each building
or structure shall have one calendar month in which to contact the
Board of Supervisors of Girard Township or its designated person to
secure a number, which will be prominently posted at an appropriate
place on the building or structure for convenience of identification.
An application for securing a number for a new
building or structure shall be made in writing by the owner or his
agent upon forms supplied by Girard Township and shall contain the
names of the owner(s) and a description sufficient to identify the
building or structure for which the number is intended.
The Board of Supervisors of Girard Township
may, by resolution, in its discretion, appoint or designate a person
or agency that shall be vested with the powers, duties and obligations
herein set forth. In addition to these duties, the designee shall
keep an accurate record of all house numbers assigned in Girard Township
for the benefit of Township residents and other interested parties.
