The Township of Readington does hereby establish
a reciprocal agreement with each and every municipality within the
County of Hunterdon and the Township of Branchburg in the County of
Somerset for intermunicipal police assistance in case of emergency;
provided that such municipality has theretofore adopted a reciprocal
ordinance containing substantially the provisions hereinafter set
forth in this article.
The Township of Readington shall bear all expenses
incurred by members of the Township Police Department for emergency
assistance rendered to any other municipality within the County of
Hunterdon and the Township of Branchburg in the County of Somerset
and shall make no claim for reimbursement from any such municipality
for damages, injuries, wages or other expenses for aid rendered by
the members of its Police Department to such municipality; provided
that such municipality has adopted an appropriate reciprocal ordinance
in substantially the same form as provided in this article. Such reciprocal
ordinances shall constitute an agreement pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40A:14-156.1.
Pursuant to the provisions of N.J.S.A. 40A:14-156.2,
the members of the Police Department of the Township of Readington
and of any other municipality entering into an agreement hereunder,
while on duty rendering assistance outside of their respective municipalities,
shall have the same powers, authority and immunities as have the members
of the police force of the municipality in which such assistance is
being rendered.
When an emergency occurs and intermunicipal
police assistance is requested pursuant to any agreement entered into
hereunder, the Chief of Police of the municipality wherein said emergency
exists shall be the senior ranking officer of all members of any Police
Department which may be rendering assistance within the confines of
said municipality.
