A.
Establishment of office. There is hereby established
the office of Tax Collector as permitted and authorized by N.J.S.A. 40A:9-141.
B.
Appointment; term. The Township Committee shall appoint
an individual to serve as Tax Collector for a term of four years from the
first day of January next following his appointment.
C.
Powers and duties. The Township Tax Collector shall have,
perform and discharge all the functions, powers and duties prescribed for
Tax Collectors pursuant to the Revised Statutes of the State of New Jersey,
administrative regulations and municipal ordinance. The Tax Collector shall:
(1)
Receive and collect all moneys assessed or raised by
taxes or assessment for any purpose or by other township ordinance at the
direction of the Township Committee.
(2)
Keep proper records and report to the Township Committee
at least once a month all receipts and deposits made by him and in such report
account for all moneys for which the Tax Collector is responsible.
There is hereby established the office of Deputy Tax Collector who shall
be appointed by the Township Committee for a term not to exceed one year and
to expire December 31. Said Deputy shall assist the Tax Collector in the performance
of his duties and shall, in the case of absence, disability, resignation or
vacancy in the office of Tax Collector, perform the duties of Tax Collector.
The Deputy Tax Collector shall receive such salary as is set forth in the
Salary Ordinance.[1]
