[HISTORY: Adopted by the Representative Town Meeting of the Town of Branford 11-11-1970. Amendments noted where applicable.]
There shall be a Commission to study the needs of and coordinate programs for the aging for the Town of Branford, consisting of the First Selectman as an ex officio member and nine other members to be appointed by the Board of Selectmen. All members so appointed shall be persons interested in the consideration and solution of the problems of the aging, and electors of the Town. One-third of the members appointed annually shall be representative of the age group involved.
The Commission shall meet semiannually or more frequently if necessary to consider the conditions and needs of elderly persons in the community in relation to housing, economic problems, employment, health services, recreation and other matters. It shall make recommendations to the Board of Selectmen and Representative Town Meeting regarding the development of programs and facilities and integration of public and private agencies in cooperation with the state and other services to the extent possible. It shall file an annual report with the Town Clerk.
The members of the Commission so appointed shall serve without compensation but shall be reimbursed for their necessary expenses.
The members of the Commission shall serve for three years and until their successors are designated, except that on January 1, 1971, three members shall be appointed for a one-year term, three shall be appointed for a two-year term and three shall be appointed for a three-year term.
The Commission may organize itself in whatever manner it may determine in order to carry out its duties. It shall be authorized to seek, receive and utilize any private or public funds now available or which may be available in the future and/or real property to be used for programs, activities, functions and facilities for the elderly of the community.
