Every person riding a bicycle upon a roadway shall be subject to the provisions of the Vehicle and Traffic Law and the traffic ordinances of this City applicable to the driver of a vehicle,[1] except as to special regulations in this article and except as to those provisions of laws and ordinances which by their nature can have no application.

Bicycling is permitted on sidewalks within the City of Auburn, with the exception of the Auburn downtown area, where bicycling shall be prohibited during normal business hours. Pedestrians shall always have the right-of-way in the use of a sidewalk.
No person shall park a bicycle upon a street other than upon the roadway against the curb or upon the sidewalk in a rack to support the bicycle or against a building or at the curb, in such manner as to afford the least obstruction to pedestrian traffic, and provided that no person shall park a bicycle in parking meter spaces set aside for vehicles.

Notwithstanding anything contained in this chapter to the contrary, the riding of bicycles is prohibited in the designated area, as defined in § 234-16C of this Municipal Code, except as specifically provided by § 234-16D.
