In addition to the definitions specified in this chapter referred to in § 110-3 for the application of the provisions of this chapter, the following terms are defined for the purpose of carrying out the provisions of this chapter:
DOMESTIC USE
The use or installation of gas appliances in premises used or furnished for living quarters. Premises as described in § 110-7 shall be considered as "domestic" for the purpose of this chapter.
REFRIGERATOR
A gas-burning appliance designed to lower the temperature in a storage space.
SPACE OR CENTRAL HEATERS AND AIR CONDITIONERS
All types of gas-burning appliances installed for heating or cooling rooms.
WATER HEATER
A gas-burning appliance designed to heat water for domestic or other purposes, either of the automatic instantaneous type, the automatic storage type or the manually controlled circulating or tank type.
This chapter represents basic standards governing the construction, location, gas connection and venting of domestic gas appliances.
Every new gas appliance and its accessories designed for domestic use, sold for use in the Town, shall be constructed to comply with standard requirements for installation in the American Standard - Installation of Gas Piping and Gas Appliances in Buildings, ASA Z 21.30, in effect at the time of installation, for gas other than undiluted liquefied petroleum gas, and the National Fire Protection Association Pamphlet No. 52, issue in effect at the time of installation, entitled "Liquefied Petroleum Gas Piping and Appliance Installations in Buildings," for undiluted liquefied petroleum gas.
A. 
Every used gas appliance and its accessories designed for domestic use, sold for use in the Town, shall be in good operating condition and of a type which will ensure safe operation with the type of gas used.
B. 
If the installation requirements as hereafter set out in this chapter require that an appliance be vent-connected, no such appliance shall be sold or installed unless it is constructed with a flue collar to permit venting.
The appliance installation shall be made in accordance with the American Standard — Installation of Gas Piping and Gas Appliances in Buildings, ASA Z 21.30, in effect at the time of installation, for gas other than undiluted liquefied petroleum gas, and the National Fire Protection Association Pamphlet No. 52, issue in effect at the time of installation, entitled "Liquefied Petroleum Gas Piping and Appliance Installations in Buildings," for undiluted liquefied petroleum gas, and in addition with the following specific requirements:
A. 
Location.
(1) 
Unless equipped with an automatic pilot, space or central heaters and air conditioners shall not be installed in sleeping quarters or used in rooms normally kept closed. Space or central heaters and air conditioners shall not be installed in a bathroom if any air needed for combustion or venting is taken from the bathroom or if there is a possibility of bathroom air being diluted with flue products.
(2) 
Water heaters shall not be installed in bathrooms, bedrooms or any occupied rooms normally kept closed.
(3) 
Refrigerators shall not be located in bathrooms nor should they be located in sleeping rooms or any room normally kept closed, but if so, adequate ventilation to the outside air shall be provided.
B. 
Appliances requiring flues or vents.
(1) 
For gaseous fuels except liquefied petroleum gas. Any appliance installed for domestic purposes having an input rating in excess of 5,000 Btu per hour shall be connected to an effective flue or vent except listed domestic gas ranges, listed hot plates and laundry stoves, listed domestic clothes dryers, listed gas refrigerators, counter appliances and other appliances listed for unvented use and not provided with flue collars.
(2) 
For liquefied petroleum gas. Appliances shall be flue-connected or otherwise vented to carry off the products of combustion in accordance with the requirements of the Liquefied Petroleum Gas Association Pamphlet No. 1.
