It is the purpose of this chapter to ensure that all lots and/or structures
with phone capability are assigned a street address for accessibility of the
911 System.
All new numbers shall be assigned by the Township Engineering Department
at the issuance of a building permit.
Preexisting street numbers not in conformance shall be assigned a new
street address by the Township Engineering Department.
Box numbers for mail may be retained only if in conformance with the
street address assigned by the Engineering Department.
Each and every occupied structure must display its street number at
least once in the following manner ("display" is meant to be the placing of
the number in such a location so as to be unambiguous as to which structure
it is designating):
A.
Numbers shall be placed so as to be unobstructed and
plainly visible from the street the structure is addressed to.
B.
Numbers shall be of contrasting color to their background.
C.
Number shall be no less than three inches tall and of
sufficient size to be read from the street.
D.
Numbers shall not be in script form.
Occupied structures that are not readily visible form the street shall
display the street number at the driveway, private road or lane that accesses
the structure. If more than one occupied structure is accessed by the driveway,
private road or lane, they may, in lieu of displaying each number as above,
display the range of numbers and whether the numbers are even only, odd only,
or both even and odd.
Occupied structures having different street numbers, but sharing a common
driveway, private road or lane, shall, in addition to the above, display their
numbers a second time in the same manner so as to be plainly visible form
the common driveway, private road or lane.
Multiple-unit structures having more than one street number address
may, in lieu of displaying each number as above, may display the range of
numbers assigned to the structure and whether the numbers are even only, odd
only, or both even and odd. However, each individual unit must also have its
number displayed at its entrance.
It is the responsibility of the owner of the structure for compliance
to this chapter. Preexisting numbers shall be in compliance by January 31,
1994. New numbers shall be in compliance upon the issuance of a certificate
of occupancy.
A.
Violations of this chapter will be the responsibility
of the Department of Municipal Services.
B.
Any person, firm or corporation that violates or neglects
to comply with any provision of this chapter or any regulation promulgated
pursuant thereto shall, upon conviction thereof, be punishable by a first
offense fine not to exceed $20 and a subsequent offense fine not to exceed
$100, in the discretion of the court.
