Whenever any words and phrases are used in this
chapter and in any schedule hereof, the meanings respectively ascribed
to them in Subtitle I of Title 39 of the Revised Statutes of New Jersey
shall be deemed to apply to such words and phrases used herein. The
definitions established by N.J.R.S. 39:1-1 shall govern the meaning
of any words and phrases used herein.
The numbered schedules annexed to this chapter
are made a part thereof. These schedules, by direct reference to the
number thereof, may be amended, revised or supplemented by ordinance
or resolution of the governing body of the Township of Bridgewater,
aforesaid, pursuant to N.J.R.S. 39:4-197. Schedules which are designated
"Reserved" are for future use to establish additional traffic regulations
of the nature and character specified in those sections of this chapter
which refer to such numbered schedules. The schedules annexed hereto
are designed to set forth the geographical location of the various
classes of regulations established by this chapter and the more specific
details of such regulations.
A.
This chapter and the annexed schedules, as from time
to time amended, revised and supplemented, shall be interpreted in
a manner consistent with the manner in which Title 39 of the Revised
Statutes of New Jersey is, from time to time, interpreted by the courts
of the State of New Jersey.
B.
If any part or parts of this chapter or annexed schedules,
as amended, revised or supplemented, are for any reason held to be
invalid, such decision shall not affect the validity of the remaining
portions of this chapter and the annexed schedules.
This chapter and the annexed schedules shall
constitute a general revision of all prior ordinances and of all prior
resolutions passed by the governing body of the Township of Bridgewater,
aforesaid. All former traffic ordinances and resolutions heretofore
passed by the Township Council of the Township of Bridgewater, aforesaid,
are hereby repealed. This repeal shall not affect or prevent the prosecution
or punishment of any person for any act done or committed in violation
of any ordinance or resolution hereby repealed prior to the taking
effect of this chapter.
