A Board of Fire Commissioners is hereby constituted
in the borough. The Board shall consist of the Chiefs of the Fire
Department and the Commissioners of each company. The Fire Chief shall,
by virtue of his office, be Chairman of the Board of Fire Commissioners,
and said Board may, by a majority vote, elect such other officers
as may be necessary for the proper conduct of its business.
It shall be the duty of the Board to make such
recommendations as may be necessary in connection with the betterment
of the service of the Fire Department, including the organization
of fire companies, the discipline of the Fire Department, the equipment
of the same and the fire hazard within the borough limits. All recommendations,
when approved by the Chief of the Fire Department, shall be forthwith
submitted, in writing, to the Mayor and Council of the borough for
such action thereon as the Mayor and Council may deem advisable.
Each member of the Board of Fire Commissioners
shall be a member in good standing of the company from which he is
elected and shall only be removed in the manner required by law for
the removal of public officers, after notice of hearing and an opportunity
to be heard in his defense.
The Board of Fire Commissioners may adopt such
rules and regulations as may be necessary to carry out the powers
and duties set forth in this article.
