A. 
It shall be the duty of the Attorney for the Commonwealth of the city to appear and prosecute in the General District Court of the city and to appear and prosecute in the Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court of the city in violation of all city ordinances which are misdemeanors and which he would be required to appear and prosecute under the general statutory law if the violation were a state offense, and it shall further be his duty to appear and prosecute in the aforesaid courts all other violations of city ordinances when requested to do so by the Judge of either such court.
B. 
The Commonwealth's Attorney shall have such other powers and perform such other duties as may be prescribed by the Charter or by general law or as may be lawfully prescribed by the City Council. The Commonwealth's Attorney and all Assistant Attorneys for the Commonwealth shall devote full time to their duties and shall not engage in the private practice of law.
