Town of Bethel, NY Chapter 325 Vehicles and Traffic

Article I Regulations for Lake Street (Kauneonga Lake)

[Adopted 7-8-2004 by L.L. No. 2-2004 (Ch. 124 of the 1990 Code)]

§ 325-1 Findings; purpose.

The Town Board of the Town of Bethel hereby finds that the volume of traffic with vehicles in tow on Lake Street, Kauneonga Lake, in the Town of Bethel, New York, is a safety hazard to the residents of Lake Street and other members of the public frequenting Lake Street. The Town Board of the Town of Bethel finds and determines that by diverting towed vehicles away from Lake Street traffic hazards otherwise caused by said vehicles will be reduced.

§ 325-2 Prohibited turn.

For any motor vehicle with a vehicle in tow, there shall be prohibited a right-hand turn from the boat launch area located on Lake Street (Town Road 100) in the Town of Bethel onto Lake Street. Any such motor vehicle shall make a left-hand turn when exiting the boat launch area.

§ 325-3 Definitions.

As used in this article, the following terms shall have the meanings indicated:

MOTOR VEHICLE

Shall have the meaning set forth at § 125 of the New York Vehicle and Traffic Law.

SEMI-TRAILER

Shall have the meaning set forth at § 143 of the New York Vehicle and Traffic Law.[1]

TRAILER

Shall have the meaning set forth at § 156 of the New York Vehicle and Traffic Law.

VEHICLE

Shall have the meaning set forth at § 159 of the New York Vehicle and Traffic Law.

VEHICLE IN TOW

Any vehicle or equipment that is towed by a motor vehicle, including a trailer, semi-trailer, motor home, motor vehicle or any other wheeled vehicle or equipment that is secured to the towing vehicle.

§ 325-4 Signage.

The Town of Bethel Highway Superintendent shall maintain appropriate signs as he, in his sole discretion, shall deem appropriate advising the public that there shall be no right-hand turn from the boat launch area onto Lake Street for any motor vehicle with a vehicle in tow.

§ 325-5 Enabling legislation.

This article is adopted pursuant to the authority granted by § 1660 of the Vehicle and Traffic Law, including, without limitation, Subdivision 13 thereof; § 130 of the Town Law of the State of New York, including, without limitation, Subdivision 7 thereof; and § 10 of the Municipal Home Rule Law of the State of New York.
