United Hook & Ladder 33 (the "Fire Company"), a volunteer fire company organized and existing in the Borough of Abbottstown, Adams County, Pennsylvania, is hereby designated as the officially recognized Fire Company for Abbottstown Borough (the "Borough").
The purpose of this article is to recognize that the Fire Company's acts, which are classified as public firefighting duties, are done on behalf of the Borough and to state additional authorized activities for members of the Fire Company, including special fire police, for workmen's compensation purposes.
A. 
The Fire Company recognized by the Borough is hereby authorized to provide such services to the Borough and to municipalities outside of the Borough as may be necessary for the protection of property and persons situate therein, which include, by way of example and not of limitation, the extinguishment and prevention of loss of life and property from fire, automobile accidents, medical emergencies, hazardous material incidents, and other dangerous situations, and also include security, traffic control and/or crowd control associated therewith.
B. 
The Fire Company may also provide nonemergency and public service functions, within or outside the Borough, such as, by way of example and not of limitation, removing water from property after storms, and assisting in the removal, abatement and prevention of damage or injury to persons or property, whether through natural causes or man-made situations.
C. 
The Fire Company may also conduct and participate in such training activities and drills, either within or outside of the Borough, as may be deemed necessary for the members of the Fire Company to maintain proficiency in providing service. The Fire Company may also respond to calls and provide services to municipalities outside of the Borough.
A. 
In addition to actually participating in the activities of the Fire Company as authorized above, or in going to and returning from any said activity, the members, including special fire police, of the Fire Company recognized by the Borough are also authorized to do the following:
(1) 
Engage in any type of drill, training, ceremony, practice, test or parade, whether within or outside of the Borough, when authorized in writing by the Fire Company Chief.
(2) 
Engage in fund-raising activities for the Fire Company, whether within or outside of the Borough, when authorized in writing by the Abbottstown Borough Council.
(3) 
Engage in the performance of any other duty or activity, of a nonemergency nature, such as, by way of example and not of limitation, parades, car shows, school functions, funeral services, picnics, and events associated with holidays, such as, but not limited to, New Year's, Easter, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Halloween, and/or Christmas, and any other event or function, whether within or outside the Borough, when authorized in writing by the Abbottstown Borough Council.
B. 
Abbottstown Borough Council may approve these activities in advance, by way of resolution, or in response to the submission of a list on an annual basis by the Abbottstown Fire Company.
