No slaughterhouse where cattle, horses, poultry, swine or sheep are
slaughtered or killed, or where dead horses, cows or fowl are dissected and
cut up for commercial purposes, shall be conducted within the Borough of Hopatcong.
No fowl coop or run, or animal stable shall be maintained within 10
feet of any side line or within 10 feet of any party line or fence of adjacent
property, or within 20 feet of the door or window of any house, or within
50 feet of any brook, spring, well or lake.
Every camp and trailer camp shall furnish potable water and make provisions to dispose of all waste liquids, dishwater, etc., below the surface of the ground, as required in Article
VII, §
274-53D of this code.
Whenever the owners of buildings occupied as residences have agreed
to supply heat, the owners shall supply heat to said buildings from the first
day of October in each year to the first day of May of the succeeding year,
so that the temperature of said buildings shall always be kept at 68º
F. or above, between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m., except if otherwise
provided in any lease or agreement of letting.
No live poultry or fowl of any kind, rabbits, hares or guinea pigs shall
be kept or maintained in any dwelling house or part thereof, nor shall any
of the above-mentioned animals or fowl be allowed to run at large, but shall
be housed in a suitable house or coop with an enclosed runway. Such house
or coop and runway shall be kept thoroughly clean and unobjectionable at all
times. No part of said house, coop or runway shall be nearer than 30 feet
to a building occupied by a human being, or nearer than 50 feet of any street
line, or 30 feet of any party line or 50 feet from any well, spring, brook
or lake. Nothing stated herein to the contrary shall prohibit any family from
having a few animals as pets.
No person, firm or corporation shall keep or maintain live poultry or
fowl of any kind, rabbits, hares or guinea pigs within the Borough of Hopatcong
without a permit from the Board of Health. There shall be a fee of $2 for
said permit. Said permit shall be granted upon written application therefor
and compliance with the provisions of this chapter.
Such permits shall expire on the 31st day of December in each year and
may be renewed annually. Every such permit may be revoked by said Board for
violation of this chapter.
