The Township Committee hereby creates and establishes the office of Supervisor of Public Works. His duties shall include but not be limited to:
A. 
Supervising and responsibility for the care and maintenance of streets, roads, avenues, public buildings, public places, trash and waste removal and motor vehicles of the Township.
B. 
Direct supervision on a daily basis of Township employees engaged in the care and maintenance of streets, roads, avenues, public buildings, public places, trash and waste removal and motor vehicles of the Township.
C. 
Maintenance of time records, payroll sheets and personnel records of the employees under his supervision.
D. 
Assigning duties to the employees under his supervision and carrying out projects directed from time to time by the Township Committee.
E. 
Performance of such other duties as are from time to time assigned to him by the Township Committee.
In the event of emergencies, when it is impractical to obtain directions from the Township Committee, the Supervisor of Public Works shall report to, be directed by and perform such duties as are prescribed by the Mayor.

A. 
The Supervisor of Public Works shall serve for a term of three years. The appointment of the office of Supervisor of Public Works shall be made by a majority vote of the Township Committee.
B. 
The Supervisor of Public Works shall establish tenure in accordance with N.J.S.A. 40A:9-154.6, wherein:
(1) 
The Supervisor of Public Works who has held the position continuously for five years or more shall continue to hold the position, notwithstanding he/she is serving for a fixed term, during good behavior and efficiency.
(2) 
The Supervisor of Public Works who has held the position continuously for five years or more shall not be removed for political or other reasons except for good cause, upon written charges filed with the appropriate authority and after a public, fair and impartial hearing.
(3) 
The Supervisor of Public Works who has held the position continuously for five years or more may be retired when he/she shall have attained 70 years of age.
Pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40A:9-1.7, it is determined that the Supervisor of Public Works is not required to be a resident of the Township of Mantua.
Compensation for the position shall be established by ordinance.
