A. 
Any person who shall violate any of the provisions of this chapter or fail to comply herewith or who shall violate or fail to comply with any order made hereunder or who shall build in violation of any detailed statement of specifications or plans submitted and approved hereunder or any certificate or permit issued hereunder and from which no appeal has been taken or who shall fail to comply with such an order as affirmed or modified by the Bureau of Fire Prevention or by a court of competent jurisdiction within the time fixed herein shall severally for each and every such violation and noncompliance, respectively, be guilty of a violation, punishable by a fine of not more than two hundred fifty dollars ($250.) or by imprisonment for not more than fifteen (15) days, or both. Each week that a violation continues shall be deemed a separate offense.[1]

B. 
Except as provided otherwise by law, such a violation is hereby declared to be an offense, thus not a crime. However, for the purpose of conferring jurisdiction upon courts and judicial officers generally, violations of this chapter shall be deemed misdemeanors.
Appropriate actions and proceedings may be taken at law or in equity to restrain, correct or abate a violation of this chapter, and these remedies shall be in addition to the penalties prescribed in the preceding section.
