[HISTORY: Adopted by the Board of Trustees of the Charter Township of East China 9-19-1988 by Ord. No. 173 (Ch. 2-04 of the 1980 Code). Amendments noted where applicable.]
A. 
The purpose of this chapter is to create a Historical Commission, provide for its appointment, and prescribe its functions pursuant to Public Act 213 of 1957.[1]

B. 
The further purpose is to authorize the Township Board of Trustees to raise and appropriate money to foster activities on projects which the Board determines will advance the historical interests of the Township pursuant to Public Act No. 212 of 1957, as amended.[2]

The Historical Commission of the Charter Township of East China shall consist of seven members.
A. 
Appointed by Board. Members shall be appointed by the Township Board of Trustees.
B. 
Composition. The members of the Commission shall be appointed by the Township Board of Trustees. One member shall be from the Township Board of Trustees, and there shall be an alternate from the Board.

C. 
Terms. Initial terms shall be staggered to avoid all vacancies occurring during the same period; one term for one year, two terms for two years, and two terms for three years. Subsequent terms shall all be three years.
The Historical Commission shall select its own officers and shall be a public body for all purpose under Michigan law.
A. 
The Historical Commission shall discover and designate those portions or structures within the Township which have a particular historical significance.
B. 
The Commission shall recommend to the Township Board actions and projects that will advance the historical interest of the Township and for which the Board may consider raising and appropriating money.

A. 
State or federal government grants. The local legislative body may accept grants from the state or federal governments for historical restoration purposes.
B. 
Public or private gifts. It may accept public or private gifts for historical purposes.
C. 
Commission duly appointed agent. It may make the Historical Commission its duly appointed agent to accept and administer grants and gifts for historical preservation purposes.
