GENERAL REFERENCES
Traffic — See Ch. 420.
Recreational vehicles — See Ch. 441.
As used in this chapter, the following terms shall have the meanings indicated:
BICYCLE
Includes every vehicle propelled solely by human power upon which any person may ride, having one, two, or three wheels.
BICYCLE PATH
A paved surface designated by the Township Board of Trustees as a bicycle path and identified as a bicycle path by appropriate signs.
PEDESTRIAN
Any person afoot, including a person not astride the seat and walking beside a bicycle, and any person using roller skates, roller blades, a skateboard or a medically prescribed nonmotorized wheelchair.
Bicycle paths shall be used only for bicycle and pedestrian traffic. No motorized vehicles, including but not limited to automobiles, trucks, motorcycles, go-karts, golf carts, motor scooters, mopeds, all-terrain vehicles, and snowmobiles, shall be operated on a bicycle path except:
A. 
Maintenance or repair vehicles authorized by the Township.
B. 
Ambulance, emergency, fire or police vehicles for public safety or response purposes.
C. 
An individual with a disability using a single passenger motorized wheelchair which has been medically prescribed for the individual operating the wheelchair.
D. 
Otherwise permitted by this chapter.
The operator of a bicycle on a bicycle path:
A. 
Shall have all the rights and duties applicable to pedestrians.
B. 
Shall not exceed a walking or pedestrian speed when riding across a roadway upon a crosswalk.
C. 
Shall yield the right-of-way to any pedestrian and shall give an audible signal before overtaking and passing such pedestrians. Due and proper care shall be exercised by the operator for the safety of pedestrians.
D. 
Shall carry no more persons on a bicycle at one time than the number for which it is designed or equipped, except that an adult cyclist may carry a child securely attached to his or her person in a backpack or sling.
E. 
Shall not carry any package, bundle, or article which prevents the use of both hands in the control and operation of such bicycle.
F. 
Shall not ride a bicycle in a careless, reckless, or acrobatic manner and shall keep one hand on the handlebars at all times.
Pedestrians using roller skates, roller blades, skateboards, or a wheelchair shall yield the right-of-way to all other pedestrian traffic.
A. 
No person shall operate a motor vehicle on or across a bicycle path except to enter or leave adjacent property.
B. 
No person shall stop or park a motor vehicle in a manner that obstructs a bicycle path or bicycle path crossing.
