[Adopted 4-14-1975 by Ord. No. 1048; amended 10-17-2005 by Ord. No. 1795]
A.
The City Commission shall appoint a City Attorney, who shall hold office at the pleasure of the City Commission. The City Attorney shall designate a primary and an alternate staff member to assume the responsibilities of and exercise the authority of that office in the event of his/her absence, and shall advise the City Commission in writing of this designation.
B.
The City Attorney must, at the time of employment, be a member in good standing of the State Bar of Michigan, or be eligible for immediate admission to practice before the Supreme Court of this state. Failure to be immediately admitted to practice or to remain a member in good standing of the State Bar shall constitute a disqualification for the position of City Attorney.
Conditions of employment for the City Attorney, in addition to those specified in this article, shall, from time to time, be embodied in a resolution or ordinance of the City Commission, or in an employment agreement, as deemed appropriate for public information and record.
The City Attorney shall not accept any paid consulting or paid teaching contracts, unless with the prior approval of the City Commission or pursuant to the terms and conditions of a written employment agreement.
