The Police Department of the village shall consist
of the Chief of Police and such other police officers as the Village
Board may prescribe from time to time by ordinance or resolution.
Police officers, other than the Chief, shall
be recommended by the Chief, subject to approval of the Village Board.
The Chief shall have authority to demote, suspend temporarily or remove
from the force any officer of the Department, subject to the right
of such officer to appeal such action to the Village Board.
The Chief of Police and all police officers
of the village shall possess the powers, enjoy the privileges and
be subject to the liabilities conferred and imposed by law on village
marshals and constables. Every sworn officer of the Police Department
shall have full power and authority and it shall be their duty to:
A. Arrest powers. Arrest with or without process all
persons in the village found engaged in any disturbance of the peace
or violating any law or ordinance of the state or village or aiding
or abetting in such violation, and take all such persons in charge
and confine them and within a reasonable time bring them before the
Circuit Courts of Ozaukee County to be dealt with according to law.
B. Enforcement of laws. Familiarize themselves with the
ordinances of the village and attend to the enforcement of such ordinances
by all lawful means.
C. Crime prevention. Help prevent crimes, misdemeanors
and violations of the village ordinances and protect the health, safety,
public peace and order of the village and its inhabitants.
D. Reporting of obstructions. Report all street and sidewalk
obstructions, unlighted streetlamps, unlawful street signs or signals
and defective or dangerous streets and sidewalks to the Village Administrator.
E. Assist Fire Department. Assist the Fire Department
in maintaining order at the scene of a fire.
F. Enforcement of licensing. See that the necessary permits
and licenses issued by the proper authority of the state or village
are in the possession of or properly displayed by any person engaged
in an activity or business within the village for which such permit
or license is required and that the terms of such permits or licenses
are complied with.
The Village President and Trustees shall have
and exercise the powers of peace officers and may summarily suppress
any riotous or disorderly conduct in the streets or public places
of the village.

A. Purpose. This section is adopted for the purpose of
providing the Police Department with the authority to request criminal
history record information from the State of Wisconsin if requested
by the Village Administrator or any Village department head. A request
under this section must be based on a reasonable belief that the criminal
history information is necessary to assist in the safe and efficient
operation of Village government.
B. Search. If requested by the Village Administrator
or any Village department head, the Police Department is authorized
to and shall conduct a criminal history record information search
concerning the following persons:
(1) Applicants for alcohol beverage licenses;
(2) Applicants for direct seller registration and fund
solicitor permits;
(3) Applicants for any Village employment;
(4) Applicants for sexually oriented business licenses;
(5) Applicants for all other licenses and permits issued
by the Village;
(6) Any other person for whom the Village Administrator
or a department head requests criminal history record information.
C. Fees. The cost of the search shall be paid as provided
by ordinance or, if not specifically addressed in an ordinance, as
directed by the Village Administrator.

The Village of Saukville Fire Department shall consist of the
Fire Chief, such officers as may be appointed by the Chief to positions
authorized by the Village Board, together with at least 25 members.

All new members shall serve an orientation period of not less
than 18 months after being appointed by the Fire Chief or until they
successfully complete training as required by the Department.

A. Appointment and qualifications. The Fire Chief shall be appointed as provided by §
35-2 of this Code.
B. Powers
and duties.
(1) The Chief shall have the power to appoint all officers and members
of the Fire Department who shall serve at will and at pleasure of
the Chief.
(2) The Chief shall have general supervision of the Department personnel,
apparatus and equipment, subject to the ordinances of the Village
and applicable law. The Chief shall be present at all fires and command
all fire-fighting operations at fires, practices or drills. The Chief
may suspend, demote or remove any officer or member subject to the
privilege of any member to appeal through the Village's Wis. Stat.
§ 66.0509 grievance procedure.
(3) The Chief shall enforce or cause to be enforced all fire prevention
ordinances, laws and regulations of the Village and State of Wisconsin.
C. Fire
practice and drills. The Chief shall cause to be held at least monthly
fire practice and drills by the Department, at such times and to such
extent as the Chief shall deem necessary. The Chief shall report all
defects in apparatus and equipment immediately to the Village Administrator.
D. Dismissal
of Fire Chief. The Fire Chief shall be responsible to the Village
Administrator and Village Board and may be dismissed at the pleasure
of the Village Board and by majority vote of a quorum of the Village
Board.
E. Who
to act in temporary absence of Fire Chief. The duties of the Fire
Chief shall be carried out in the Fire Chief's temporary absence by
the highest ranking officer.

A. Officers. Officers shall assist the Fire Chief in all operations
of the Fire Department as requested or ordered by the Chief.
B. Chief Engineer. The Chief Engineer and assistants shall take charge
of the fire apparatus and equipment and operate same at all fires
and fire practices or drills. The Chief Engineer or assistants shall
inspect and test all apparatus of the Fire Department at the scheduled
functions and report any deficiency to the Fire Chief. The Chief Engineer
shall arrange for repairs of same, and the Fire Chief shall report
any major repairs or deficiencies to the Village Board.
C. Engine and ladder company officers. All engine and ladder company
officers shall take charge of all engine and ladder company operations
at the fire scenes and fire practices; direct the fire fighters in
search-and-rescue activities, protection of exposures and suppression
of the fire according to their discretion, if not contrary to the
Fire Chief. They will carry out the Fire Chief's orders and assist
the Chief in any way possible.
D. Officers. All Fire Department officers shall carry out the orders
of the Fire Chief and report directly to the Chief through the chain
of command on the operation of their respective assignments and duties.

A. Fire apparatus and equipment shall be issued for fire-fighting, rescue
operations, training and other Fire Department functions and operations
as directed by the Fire Chief. A monthly training report shall be
made by the officer in charge of training.
B. All equipment shall be maintained by and furnished at the expense
of the Village, and title to the same shall be to the Village. No
order shall be granted for the purchase of any goods or equipment
unless signed by the Chief and authorized by the Village Board.

The salaries of the officers and compensation paid to members
shall be paid out of the general fund upon orders or vouchers approved
by the Village Board.
A. Fire Chief. The salary of the Chief shall be fixed by the Village
Board.
B. Officers. The salaries of all other officers of the Department shall
be as fixed by the Chief, subject to the approval of the Village Board.
C. Members. Compensation paid to the members shall be as fixed by the
Village Board.
The Chief of Police or police officer on duty
shall report immediately on the alarm of fire to where the fire may
be for the preservation of public peace and for the removal of all
persons not actively or usefully employed in aiding to extinguish
such fire or in the preservation of property in the vicinity of such
fire.
