This article recognizes the need for proper use of equipment and to minimize false alarms or other interference with orderly conduct of Town business. This article is adopted pursuant to home rule powers, as provided for in Article VIII of the Maine Constitution; 17-A M.R.S.A. § 509.
It shall be unlawful for any person to report the existence of a fire or other emergency to the Police, Fire Department, or any other agency empowered to deal with an emergency when such person knows the report to be false. This section shall include ambulance calls.
Any person found in violation of this article by a court shall be subject to a fine not less than $50 nor more than $100, and shall also be liable to reimburse the Town and its officials for all costs incurred by the Town and its officials in connection with this violation, including but not limited to compensation for any officer of the Town for mileage expenses at the rate of $0.22 per mile.
