Editor's Note: An interim amendment to this regulation was adopted
12-27-1993.
All animal control complaints will be directed to the Madison Police
Department, which will log complaints and notify the Town's Animal Control
Officer of the complaint. The Animal Control Officer will call complainant
to gather additional information and will log the name of person making call,
telephone number, date, time, location of complaint and nature of complaint.
Procedures for responding to complaint:
A.
Stray or abandoned animal is under control of complainant
and complainant will hold animal until Animal Control Officer arrives; then
Animal Control Officer will promptly go to site, pick up animal and transport.
B.
If stray or abandoned animal is running at large and
complainant knows who is owner of animal, Animal Control Officer will contact
owner of animal and issue warning; if animal is running at large again, a
summons will be issued. If there is a second complaint on the same animal,
and complainant will issue statement of facts, then Animal Control Officer,
under guidance of a police officer, will issue summons.
The Animal Control Officer will not pick up unwanted animals, such as
a litter of kittens or puppies, for the convenience of the owner.
The Animal Control Officer will be provided a key to the Somerset County
Humane Society Animal Shelter. When an animal is brought to the shelter, the
Animal Control Officer will complete a form provided by the Society for all
animals left at shelter.
